The UC Merced Environmental Analytical Laboratory (EAL) is one of core facilities supported by the Office of Research and Economic Development. The EAL's mandate is to provide researchers at UC Merced, and beyond, with access to laboratory instrumentation, analytical services, and technical expertise at affordable rates. The EAL has instrumentation designed to meet a wide range of analytical needs and is located in BSP 018 at the UC Merced main campus.
EAL Service:
Focusing on terminal analyses — EAL does not offer routine sample preparation services (e.g., drying, grinding, sieving, filtration, extraction); some ancillary lab tasks (e.g., standard and reagent preparation, sample dilution) can be performed by EAL staff at hourly labor rates. If lack of resources limits a client's ability to prepare samples for analysis, they may obtain permission to use certain EAL resources for free.
Potential users are encouraged to contact EAL staff as early as possible during project development to identify EAL instruments of interest and to ensure that sample collection, preservation, and preparation protocols are well-aligned with study objectives.
